Why diapers have smell?

1. The smell of raw material

There are more than ten kinds of raw materials used to make diapers. Each raw material of diapers may have smell. When the smells of each material are superimposed, the finished products will have obvious smell. Such as the bottom film, it’s the out layer of diapers. This film is  PE film also called Polyethylene film. The function of it is to prevent urine penetration.  Polyethylene is odorless and non-toxic. Note that it’s odorless but not smelly or tasteless.

2. The smell of disinfection

Diapers need to be sterilized at high temperature or do ozone sterilization, or do ultraviolet sterilization, or do other sterilization methods during the production process. In addition, the production line of diapers will be stopped regularly for cleaning and disinfection. Therefore it may leave smell in diapers that are packaged directly without ventilation treatment.

3. The smell of adhesive

Diapers contain many layers. Each layer and each layer’s raw materials are stick up by pressure sensitive adhesive in the production process. After the diaper is made, it is packaged and sealed directly without ventilation treatment.

For regular brand diapers, the smell itself does not affect the safety of the product. Generally speaking, the smell of diapers that have just been produced may be more obvious. After the packaging is opened and left for a while, the smell will be significantly diminished or even dissipated.
