The details of one of baby diaper’s raw material ---ADL

ADL is the abbreviation of Acquisition Distribution Layer.

ADL is the second layer of the diaper and it’s the non-woven material between the top sheet and the absorbent core layer. ADL creates low-density voids under the surface layer. 

The function is to accelerate the penetration and diffusion of liquid into the absorbent core layer (fluff pulp+SAP) and reduce the liquid infiltration. The ADL layer can ensure the uniform distribution of liquid, so that it is not easy to breakage, clumping, deformation, and reduce the contact between urine and the skin.

The progress of the penetration and diffusion of liquid: When the liquid comes to the top sheet, it’s absorbed by the top sheet. And penetrate into the ADL. Under the action of pressure and gravity, the liquid is diverted into the absorption core for storage, preventing contact between the liquid and the skin, and reducing leakage of the liquid. It provides a dry and comfortable environment for the baby.

Baby’s skin health has improved because these polymers lock moisture away where it cannot irritate skin. The severity and frequency of diaper rash has declined dramatically.

In the early days, spun-bond non-woven or perforated membranes were mainly used as ADL, but in recent years, breathable bonded non-woven are mainly used as ADL. To improve the visual effect, the ADL has different colors.
