Suzano announces an increase in pulp prices in May

Suzano announced a new round of price increases for eucalyptus pulp in all regions starting from May. Due to strong demand for raw materials in different markets and supply issues, the adjustment range is between 30 to 80 USD/t.

In the main export destination Asian market, the increase is 30 USD/t. Considering spot prices, the price of Chinese pulp may reach 740 USD/t in May.

For Europe, the adjustment range is 60 USD/t, and the reference price for pulp in May will be raised to 1440 USD/t, which is the highest nominal price in the history of the European market.

In North America, the price has been adjusted by $80 per ton, and it is expected that the reference price for pulp will increase to $1670 per ton.

Leonardo Grimaldi, Director of Suzano Pulp Business, stated that the instability caused by the Red Sea rebels, strikes at Finnish ports, and unexpected closures have led to an increase in shipping costs. The significant increase in factory costs and below normal inventory levels have supported the rise in commodity prices, and commodity prices have been readjusted on a monthly basis in 2024.

This is the fifth price adjustment announced by several Brazilian pulp producers, including Suzano, in 2024.
